Jose (Tou) Gerardo Escobar entered eternal rest on February 9th, 2026, at the age of 71. Tou
was born in San Antonio, Texas, on September 9th, 1954, to the late Jose G. Escobar Jr. and
Maria T. Escobar, as the firstborn son in their beautiful family of five children. Tou spent his
early years caring for his brothers and sisters until he joined the United States Navy. He
later went on to create a life he cherished.

As a strong-willed man and self-taught craftsman, Tou embraced a life of adventure;
traveling throughout the country, collecting art, making friends everywhere he went, being
an activist in his communities, building with his own hands, and offering advice to the
generations who came after him. He got to experience much of the West Coast by living
throughout Portland, Oregon, up the coast to Seattle, Washington. His mother, Maria,
passed down a love for plants and cooking, and you could often hear the two discussing
such things with passion when he visited his childhood westside home.

Tou's love for the ocean led him to settle down in Rockport, Texas, where he built his home
and life for the next 20 years alongside his four-legged children, Boots, Lily, Tiny, Loretta,
Kevin, and Blanca.

Tou is reunited with his loving parents, Jose G. Escobar Jr. and Maria T. Escobar, and 2
siblings, Angelita Escobar and Edward Orlando Escobar. He is survived by his sister Letizia
Escobar Calderon and brother Marco Antonio Escobar, his fur children Loretta, Tiny, Kevin,
and Blanca, 7 nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family and friends. He will be
greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026
