Obituary

Robert Seelig Zapata, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday July 16th, 2025 at the age of 64.

Robert was born on April 21, 1961 and spent much of his childhood and adult life in Natalia. In 1988 Robert moved to  South Dakota and spent many years there with loved ones before eventually returning to Texas to be closer to his mother. Robert wanted to make sure that his mother was taken care of.

Robert was a very talented artist and enjoyed painting, drawing and tattooing- a skill that he pridefully passed along to many of his children and grandchildren.

Robert spent many years working as a carpenter and mechanic and was always willing to do whatever it took to provide for his family.

Family was everything to Robert. He valued time with loved ones more than anything else and his daily phone calls and check-ins with his siblings, children and various friends and family will be greatly missed.

Robert was selfless and kind and was always there for the people he loved. He had a very unique sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He was full of life and up until his last moments he continued to show strength and resilience. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and loved him.

He leaves behind his mother- Angelita Zapata (Natalia TX); his children- Lori Zapata (San Antonio TX), April Zapata (San Antonio TX), Chantelle Weinandt (Sioux Falls, SD), Sunshine Zapata-Padgett (Harrisburg SD) and Joseph Zapata (Sioux Falls SD).

His siblings Jesse Zapata, Alex Zapata, Hopi Curiel and Stella Bowen. As well as grandkids- Fernando Gonzales, Maryjane Marroquin, Angelica Cavazos, Roland Serna, Brittny Reynosa, Nicholas Guajardo, Aiden St. Clair, Ayvia St. Clair, Isaiah St. Clair and Callum Padgett.

And one great grandchild- Briella Hernandez.

He strongly believed that his children and grandchildren were his greatest legacy, and he was endlessly proud of all of them.

He was preceded in death by his father Petronilo Zapata, his siblings- Valentine Zapata, Johnny Zapata, Patricia Sanchez and his granddaughter Rhylee Stanga.
